**Please note: The Fer à Cheval lodging is currently closed while the activities remain accessible. The complete reopening is planned for the 2022 season.
Le Fer à Cheval is a unique place where unlikely stories meet and are told. The lodging, located in the heart of the Mont-Mégantic massif, receives in turn the walkers of the Mini Compostelle Mégantic on their way. A break, a night, two or more, the stopover in this ranch will do the most good to anyone. In front of travelers or vacationers, neighbors or strangers, the hosts always receive their visitors with authenticity and sincerity. Allowing people to reconnect with nature, to rejuvenate in the present moment and to encourage a more down-to-earth way of life; these are the primary missions of the ranch! The place is also certified by Vaolo, a web platform gathering off-the-beaten track accommodations and experiences with human and environmental values.
Their current lodge has 3 country-style rooms. The bathroom is shared by all visitors. On site, you will quickly meet the best-trained dog in the Eastern Townships: Chase, the friendliest border collie. He will be happy to accompany you on the trails in the forest or simply by the campfire when he is not working! That's right! It is Chase who is responsible for keeping an eye on his sidekicks Colette and Fiohna. Who are they? Two Friesians! These elegant horses, dressed in a black ivory coat, are now a protected breed. Once war horses, then trotting horses, they have now regained their title of nobility.
A little history about the owners:
He came to settle in September 2020. Back from a long trip of adventures and movements, a single visit of the place was enough to convince him. Having passed through several trades and professions, one would think this man had all the talents. Military, nurse, dog handler, electrician, groom or flight attendant, he let himself be guided by an unparalleled perseverance and curiosity. From one corner of the globe to another, he brought with him a calm and reflective wisdom about life around him.
She settled there in December 2020. One visit was enough to convince her. Do people who look alike flock together? Yes! She had only one phrase in mind as soon as she set foot there, "Home at last!" Born in France, having come to complete her master's degree in Tourism Business Management in Montreal, having crossed the Earth to meet the Dalai Lama in person in search of existential answers, who would have thought that La Patrie would have been the nest of her future family? A dedicated worker with a deep-seated desire to make the world a better place, she has been involved in numerous large-scale social economy projects in the Quebec metropolis. Currently, she continues this mission here thanks to the ranch where ambitious projects are not lacking. Welcoming children with special needs, organizing day camps, expanding the ecological garden, building small cottages for resourcing and much more: the list is long!
And their love story:
Their meeting takes place in two chapters. The first one goes back to Constance's arrival in Quebec. They had met through friends at a few parties where they each brought a friend to join them. Soon after, they became a couple. In the second chapter, a few years later, it is this couple of friends who incited them to meet again. Constance came to visit Louis-Pascal for a weekend in November 2020, here in La Patrie, and never left. As if love didn't miss this second appointment!
